The Thesis Option is recommended for those who intend to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy degree in economics or applied economics at Clemson University or elsewhere or for those preparing for a career that requires expert research skills.
Thesis Option M.S. students must complete at least 24 semester hours of course work and 6 semester hours of thesis research. Of the 24 semester hours of course work, 18 hours muct be numbered 800 or above. The core course curriculum is:

Two additional 800-level courses in applied economics (6 credits) are required. The remaining 6 credits must be in 600-level courses or above and must be approved by the Major Professor and Advisory Committee by signature on the student's GS 2 form.
After a year in the M.S. Thesis Option, students can change from thesis to non-thesis option only with pernmission of the department head and major advisor.
