links being tied to each ‘issue.’ Each issue has a ‘country profile’ giving
an overview of the agricultural sector of such countries as the Philippines,
Turkey, Zambia.”

EVALUATING WEB PAGES: EXPERIENCE WHY IT’S IMPORTANT
(Submitted by Susan Casement, UC Davis. Her comments: “I’d like to point
out Joe Barker’s tutorial on why it’s worth evaluating web pages and how to
do it – UCB Teaching Library. A friend describes the tutorial this way: ‘Joe
gives a great explanation of why it’s necessary to find out who put up a web
page, and he incorporates humor. Joe has selected six topics: Latin America,
Mayan calendar, gun control, immigration, cloning humans, and aspartame. For
each, he lists five web sites to be evaluated. There is a list of recommended
questions to ask about each site, and a set of techniques that explains what
to look for on each page to help in the sleuthing process. I think he’s done
a great job of developing a “hands-on” exercise which is mentally stimulating
and teaches concepts in the process.’”
